Theory
✦Translational EducationTM is a meta-theory designed by Beth Ann Wright which seeks to understand how academic knowledge as defined through education standards impacts competent performance, and in turn, how competent performance informs the development of academic knowledge. Translational EducationTM is:
✦An applied life science theory (or meta-theory) drawing from neuroscience, psychology, sociology, philosophy, occupational therapy, and cultural competency
✦To the learner’s self-set performance-based competency goals
✦Driven by regulated academic standards
✦In a setting where the learner is supported to acquire and apply knowledge
✦Through other persons, objects, environments, and contexts
✦So that knowledge is generalizable across settings
✦And supports optimal performance.
